i-Shuffle-cast With Others Soon
By Mike Miller
I've done it.
I, with thousands of others, have ordered the new second-generation match pack-sized iPod Shuffle. And I am very excited. In fact, I'm so excited, I have totally redone my iTunes folder, and made a new favorites list just for my soon-to-come mp3 player. It ships on October 31, and I get it in early November. What excites me the most about it?
The size, for starters. When I go to the stores and look at these other mp3 players, I think like I do when looking at cars. Have you seen a big old car made in the 70's "floating" down the road, kinda taking up the whole lane, and you wondered how the driver could see out over tha dashboard? These mp3 players look like big old clunkers compared to the second generation Shuffe. Well, even the first-generation Shuffle looks like a big old clunker compared to the new one (no offense to big car lovers, I like big cars, too). But It's match-pack size is just unmatchable-pardon the pun. No arm bands or strings, just a sturdy clip the size of the iPod to attach anywhere on my clothes. This is important to me, especially since I like to exercise at the gym. I hate the big clunky things, because they get in the way, and kind of let you know they're there. I never got one because I was always afraid it will fall off or get "crunchied." So when I saw this little thing, it was love at first sight, simply because of that. It's so light, it doesn't bother you.
Another quality of this amazing little toy is how much space it has in it. Have you seen the Versa ads on tv? You know, the little tiny car with a lot of room inside (hard to believe)? And with a goofy smile the driver says, "I Like That!" Instead of 512 megabytes, the iPod Shuffle has one, whole, happy to have ya, gigabyte! That is up to 250 songs (of course, depending on the sixe of your files). Who cares about the 30 and 80 gig iPods, unless of couse you like the video stuff, or like to read books on your iPod.
Only one compact-car-sized complaint. I would like a little one-line screen on it to be able to search for my iTunes and Podcasts just a little better. But, I guess I'll have to wait for the third or fourth generation to see that one. And besides, I'm probably just a little spoiled!
In short, Apple has scored with me! With it's size/space ratio, it's a real winner for me, and I'm going to keep watching what they do with this niftiest-of-all, compact-car style wonder toy in the future. Plus, I now face possibility of having to get three more for the rest of my immediate family.
Happy iPodding!
